Step by Step
Concealer
A colour correcting concealer can tone down redness and flushing. Use sparingly, building product if required. This will neutralize any high colour in cheeks and other areas if needed.
Apply highlighting concealer with a small clean brush to any dark areas under the eyes and the inner corner of the nose. After a few seconds, press into the skin gently with your ring finger. To conceal blemishes, use a cream / stick concealer applied with a clean brush / cotton bud.
Foundation
Chose a light liquid foundation that matches your natural skin-tone. This will blend more easily over delicate skin than matte versions. Foundations with added moisturiser offer extra aid for dry skin. For even coverage, dot the foundation on your forehead, cheeks, chin and nose and gently smooth over skin with a clean brush / fingers or a wedge sponge. Be gentle on areas you have concealed, blending rather than wiping. Smooth out colour at the jaw and hairline.
Powder
Gently apply translucent or lightly hued loose powder to set your foundation and help control late-day shine. This will help you to ‘set’ your foundation and keep you looking good all day.
Blush
For Powder Blush:
Load product onto a clean brush, gently tap off any excess and then apply lightly over the apples of your cheeks and cheekbones.
For Cream Blush:
Using clean fingertips or brush, dab onto the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards.
Eye Shadow
Tips:
*Always ensure eyelid is primed before applying colour. Do this by applying eye primer or liquid foundation with powder to lid. This will prevent eye shadow creasing.
*Always use darker or medium toned colour first. Lighter colours will dilute the intensity of dark colours, resulting in the need to use more product and also taking more time!
Apply a medium tone eyehadow first. Using a brush or cotton bud create a ‘triangle’ of colour from the bottom lashes to crease in the outer third of lid. Take this colour under the lower lashes from the outer corner to the centre of eye. For extra definition, add the deepest shade along the crease of the eye. Finish by applying the lightest shade to the centre of the eyelid. Blend to soften.
Eyeliner
Tip:
*To soften pencil draw a few strokes on back of clean hand before applying – the warmth of your hand will heat and soften the tip of the pencil.
Draw a thin line along the top of the upper lid at the lash line, working from outside inwards. Then draw another on lower lashline (taking care not to go inside the rim) from the outer corner to the centre. Unlike liquid liner, pencil can be blended for a softer effect. This will define your lash line and give the illusion of fuller lashes.
Eyebrows
First, choose an eyebrow pencil shade in your current hair or wig colour - or slightly darker. To define your natural brow shape, hold the pencil straight up against your nose, parallel to the inside corner of your eye and place a dot at the brow bone to mark where the eyebrow begins. Looking straight ahead, place the pencil parallel to the outside edge of the coloured part of the eye and place a second dot to mark the highest part in the arch. Finally, place the pencil diagonally along the bottom corner of your nose to the outside corner of your eye and place a third dot where the eyebrow ends. Use a sharp pencil and short, feathery strokes along the natural line working from centre outwards.
Mascara
Avoid waterproof mascara or any ones full of fibres as they can clog on fine or thinning lashes. Start with bottom lashes using the wand vertically. Then apply to upper lashes moving the wand horizontally from root to tip with a slight wiggling motion of the wand.
Apply two coats to upper lashes. Next, brush the wand lightly over the lashes to fill.
Lipliner
Choose a shade that complements your lipstick and outline your lips carefully. It’s easier to start from the centre and work outwards, using the pencil at an angle in order to avoid creating a sharp thin line. Then fill in the whole lip area to act as a base for lipstick.
Lipstick
Select a lipstick in colour that complements your chosen make-up palette. Cover lips and blend into liner for a natural look. Creamy, moisturising lipsticks provide relief for dry lips, or use a lip balm as a top coat for extra conditioning. This can brighten your look - even if you wear no other make-up.
